A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body has received a US patent. The article comprises a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions adjacent to the respective waist end edge, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions, the chassis comprising a chassis topsheet having a wearer-facing surface disposed such that at least a portion of the wearer-facing surface contacts the body when the article is worn, and a chassis backsheet defining a garment-facing surface of the article. The device also features non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region between the chassis topsheet and the chassis backsheet; a first replaceable absorbent core component disposed between the chassis topsheet and the chassis backsheet and in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component, the first replaceable absorbent core component having a structure distinct from the chassis topsheet. The chassis and the first replaceable absorbent core component have been adapted to allow removal of the first replaceable absorbent core component from between the chassis topsheet and the chassis backsheet without removal of the chassis topsheet, and replacement of the first replaceable absorbent core component with a second replaceable absorbent core component between the chassis topsheet and the chassis backsheet, and for continued use following such replacement; and a releasable and reusable fastener component adapted to allow release therefrom and provide attachment thereto following a release therefrom, disposed on and situated so as to effect releasable and repeatable retention of a removable absorbent core component between said topsheet and said backsheet; wherein the non-removable absorbent core component comprises absorbent layers and the replaceable absorbent core component is disposed between the absorbent lavers.
